SEPTEMBER 2019 | "Married 2 An Addiction"

Updated: Dec 20, 2023

Where do I start? I guess the best place to start is with the truth. So many times, we can defend what we believe and then justify our actions based on what we believe, which is often a lie we’ve created in our hearts to keep from facing the reality of our choices.

It’s easier to say I did this because of...rather than facing the reality that I did what I did because it’s what I wanted to do. The cold truth is that we make choices, and when they do not produce the results we planned, we can always find an “out” or excuse for a reality we are not willing to accept until the very thing we build our hopes on comes crashing down not just around us but on us almost to the point of destruction. What an introduction, huh? Well, it is what it is. I made a choice that had the potential to break me down, but glimpses of hope (or what I like to call “beauty marks”) were seen even at the ugliest points. What should be my next move? Should I stay or should I go?

This blog post details a unique phase in my life story: “Married 2 an Addiction.” I went through so many things naturally, spiritually, and physically as I went on this journey. Many questions were before me, but the main two were, “why did I stay?” and “what was the purpose of it all?” You may think you have the answer but wait until you hear the whole story before making a judgment. Even though my cross may have been an addiction of a loved one, many of us have situations that we have hard decisions to make based on the choices we’ve made.

I ask that you prayerfully watch this four-part video series to see not just my situation but also know how the choices we make are just that: the choices we make. God is faithful to His Word, and He loves us unconditionally because of our “free will” to love Him in return. He doesn’t make us love Him, but He allows us to experience His love, which in turn causes those who embrace that reality to love Him back.

Even as a believer, who walks in that unconditional love, I made many choices that did not respond to His love correctly over the years. Why? Because I made a choice not to. I could present arguments that I didn’t know what I was doing and that I acted out of ignorance, which in many cases were valid. But could it also be that I operated out of arrogance, pride, my ego, or from a religious mindset?

I invite you to walk with me as we hear my heart. I pray this is a blessing to you as it has been a blessing and self-evaluation and growth for me. The open book of my life isn’t for judgment or ridicule of others (which may come), but that we all may take a real look at ourselves and not “pass the buck” when we are hit with the ugly circumstances of life that manifest from the choices we make.
